Herbert Signs to join MVB in 2024

The Men's Volleyball team is happy to announce the signing of Jackson Herbert as the newest member of the 2024 team.

"Jackson is a great pick up for us at George Mason," said Coach Jay Hosack. "He has a great volleyball IQ, and that not only comes from playing at a high level in club, but also on the beach, as he is part of the USA Volleyball pipeline for beach volleyball training. He has a potent arm swing and is a keen blocker, which are both necessary skills to have on the right side. We look forward to him being a potent weapon for us in the future."

We asked him a few question about why he's excited to become a Patriot.

Why did you choose George Mason?

I choose George Mason because I fell in love with the culture and people that are part of the team. Playing at St. James my whole high school career I got to interact and talk with the guys playing for George mason as they helped coach the different club teams at St. James. Getting to know the players a little bit better each week at practice made my decision very easy.

What are you excited about in joining the team?

I'm excited to join the team because after knowing the players for a while I can't wait to get on the court and compete with them. I am also excited to play volleyball for school because at my high school they did not offer men's volleyball so I have never had that experience of playing for a school. I am also excited to be able to constantly be around guys who share the same motives and goals as me.

What strengths will you bring to the team?

I believe that I will be a good addition to the team because I am can be a leader on the court as I was voted team captain for my club team the past 4 years.  Being a leader will allow me to aid the team get through tough times and adversity. I am also a hard worker and will push myself and teammates to be better in the court, in the classroom, and in the weight room.

What did you learn in high school that can help transfer your skills to the next level?

In high school during club volleyball I learned to play against harder competition by playing up in age my whole career. This has helped me to learn how to deal with adversity and tough challenges especially when competing against some of the better teams in the nation.

What do you plan to major in and get out of the Mason experience?

I plan on studying computer science at George Mason. I really enjoy coding and other aspects of computer science as I have taken classes covering these topics in high school. I am excited to learn more about computer science. Along with this I am looking forward to building new relationships within George Mason and the D.C. area.
