Puhek leads NOVA at Bowie

 Nicole Puhek had her second top 10 finish of the season to lead the Northern Virginia Community College cross country team Tuesday at the 5-kilometer NCAA Division II Bowie State Classic.

 

Puhek, who finished in eighth place crossed the line in 22 minutes, 58.20 seconds, while Joyce Jepleting of St. Augustin won the individual title when she clocked in at 21:06.70.

 

Ruqaia Salem (24.33.30) placed 10th as she was edged out by a Bowie State runner for the ninth spot. Leilani Cabrera, meanwhile, set a new personal-best time when she closed out her afternoon with a time of 24:08.10.

 

Breaking a personal record by over four minutes, Isabel Penner finished the race in 16th place with a time of 25:29.00. The Alexandria, natives previous best 5K time was 29:33.20 at the Hornet Harrier on Sept. 24.

 

NOVA's next race is Saturday at the Marymount Derby in Leesburg at Morven Park beginning at 10 a.m.
