Rep. Gerry Connolly, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Virginia's 11th district, has recently shared his views on various political matters through a series of tweets. Connolly, who succeeded Tom Davis in 2009 and previously served on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, addressed issues concerning the Trump Administration and public safety.
On February 21, 2025, Rep. Connolly participated in a town hall meeting with Democracy Forward to discuss what he described as "the disastrous first month of the Trump Administration." He invited those who missed the event to watch it online by providing a link: "Last night, I joined @DemocracyFwd for a town hall meeting on the disastrous first month of the Trump Administration."
Later that day, Connolly expressed skepticism regarding conflicting statements about Elon Musk's role related to DOGE cryptocurrency. According to him, there is a discrepancy between White House testimony and Donald Trump's assertions: "The White House said under oath that Elon Musk is not the administrator of DOGE. Donald Trump himself has said the exact opposite." He questioned Musk's authority in governmental affairs.
In another tweet posted on February 21, 2025, Connolly criticized former President Donald Trump's decision to release individuals he referred to as "violent criminals." He urged Speaker Johnson to ensure safety at the U.S. Capitol: "Donald Trump already released these violent criminals back onto our streets."
