"Super Lawyers Panel” Takes RVDA Convention Attendees Inside the Mock Trial of the Century
The 2022 RV Dealers Convention/Expo will feature a special “Super Lawyers Panel” with RV industry legal experts who can help dealerships avoid costly lawsuits. Audience members will be treated to a “mock trial” of a consumer claim against an RV dealer Lee King v. Mellen Campers RV and the RV manufacturer, Colossal. Mellen Campers is charged with fraud, unfair and deceptive trade practices, negligence, and abuse of the elderly, among other claims. Audience members will serve as jurors in the trial.
The Super Lawyers panel, comprised of veteran attorneys who represent RV dealers and manufacturers, will use the mock trial to teach attendees how to prevent and defend lawsuits against their dealerships on Wednesday, Nov. 9. The 2022 RV Dealers Convention/Expo is scheduled for Nov. 7-11, 2022, at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.
Speakers presenting during the “The Super Lawyers Take You into the Courtroom” session include Dave Thomas, Esq. of Keystone; Mike Pangburn, Esq. of Thor; RVDA Convention regular Harold Oehler, Esq. of Oehler Mediation; and James S. Ganther, Esq. of Mosaic Compliance Services, LLC. RVDA’s Director of Legal and Regulatory Affairs Brett Richardson, Esq., CAE, will emcee the session.
Manufacturer representatives attending the RVDA Convention are invited to attend this session and share their ideas for preventing litigation during the audience discussion segment.
Topics of discussion will include:
- How to avoid liability for claims arising in the Service Department and F&I Office
- How to avoid common employment claims by a dealership’s own employees
The Super Lawyer’s session was conceived by Harold Oehler, a full-time mediator and dealer trainer with more than 30 years of experience litigating and mediating recreational vehicle defect and accident claims vs. dealers and manufacturers. Oehler offers mediation services and dealer training across the country either live or on Zoom. He received the RVDA Chairman’s Service Award in 2010 and 2019 for outstanding contribution to the recreational vehicle industry.
“This panel have proven to be popular with our members, and this year’s group promises to feature new strategies dealers, manufacturers, and their management teams can use to avoid expensive and time-consuming litigation,” said RVDA President Phil Ingrassia. “It’s always better to start thinking about topics like this in a seminar session before any of it becomes a reality.”
About the RV Dealers Convention/Expo
Just as dealerships strive for continuous improvement, the RVDA Convention/Expo Committee is using the same principle when it comes to the RV Dealers Convention/Expo. The education program will provide segmented content based on dealership size, management structure, and revenue in addition to focusing on things dealers have in common.
The annual RVDA Convention/Expo brings together dealers, manufacturers, suppliers, and RV industry business partners for the premier dealer education and networking event of the year.
