Fairfax City Welcomes Back National Dance Day

44

City of Fairfax issued the following announcement on Aug. 26

Fairfax City will celebrate National Dance Day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., on Saturday, Sept. 18, in Old Town Square (10415 North St.). This family-friendly event will showcase different dance groups from the surrounding area, some of whom will provide mini dance lessons after their performances. Per tradition, at the end of the event, everyone is encouraged to learn this year’s routine; so bring your dancing shoes!

National Dance Day celebrates dance in all its forms and takes place annually on the third Saturday in September. The American Dance Movement and Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton established the day in 2010. American Dance Movement believes that participation in dance connects the mind and body, promotes health and wellbeing, connects us with others, and enables us to find joy through dance and movement.

In 2019, Fairfax City was proud to present showcases from many organizations. The instructional video was choreographed by internet sensation Matt Steffanina, and Becky Epstein taught the routine featured in the video

We’re excited to welcome back Epstein as our dance instructor. She will be aided by our event performers. This year’s celebration will continue to highlight the amazing local talent in and around Fairfax City. The dance groups joining us this year include

  • Reflex Dance;
  • McGrath Morgan Academy of Irish Dance;
  • Children of the Light Dancers;
  • Fairfax High School Dance Academy;
  • World Dance;
  • Virginia Ballet Company and School;
  • C4 Performing Arts;
  • The Fairfax Ballet Company and School;
  • Sundays on Tap;
  • and Dance Art Theatre.
If you’d like to get a head start on the dance moves, they can be found on the American Dance Movement’s website. We hope to see you in Old Town Square!
