Rep. Gerry Connolly, a U.S. Congressman representing Virginia's 11th district since 2009, has been vocal about his concerns regarding actions taken by former President Donald Trump and Elon Musk. Connolly expressed his views through a series of tweets, addressing various political issues and community engagement activities.

On February 7, 2025, Rep. Connolly criticized former President Donald Trump for hiring "an unelected billionaire" to handle private data and cut essential programs and services. He stated: "Donald Trump, who claims to be your champion, hired an unelected billionaire to root around in your private data and gut the programs and services you rely on every day." He further added that "Donald Trump and Elon Musk don't give a damn about you or your family."

The following day, February 8, 2025, Connolly commented on what he described as another Friday night firing by Trump. He tweeted: "Another Friday night firing. Trump purges non-partisan Archivist of the United States. Next crony must have keys to Mar-A-Lago bathrooms."

Later that same day, Rep. Connolly attended the 38th Annual Mt. Vernon Town Hall alongside his colleague Rep. Don Beyer. He expressed gratitude towards Dan Storck for hosting them at the event via Twitter: "Thank you to @DanStorck for having me and my colleague @RepDonBeyer speak at the 38th Annual Mt. Vernon Town Hall! It’s more important than ever to stay engaged in your community and make your voice heard."
