Rep. Gerry Connolly, a U.S. Congressman representing Virginia's 11th district since 2009, has voiced his concerns regarding recent political developments involving Elon Musk and former President Donald Trump through a series of tweets.

On February 2, 2025, Connolly expressed his disapproval of Elon Musk's influence in government affairs. He stated, "Elon Musk was elected by no one. He is accountable to no one." Connolly criticized Trump's decision to involve Musk in governmental operations, suggesting that their actions have led the country into disarray, ultimately impacting American citizens.

In a subsequent tweet on February 3, 2025, Connolly addressed the issue of authority over USAID. He asserted that neither Trump nor Musk has the power to shut down the agency, emphasizing its establishment by Congress. He called upon civil servants to continue their duties despite these challenges: "Not a single person in the Executive Branch — not Donald Trump, not Elon Musk, and not any of their cronies — has the authority to shut down USAID."

Later that day, Connolly shared his involvement in efforts to counteract what he described as an "outrageous attack" on USAID by Trump and Musk. He invited others to follow developments via a link provided in his tweet: "We’re at USAID HQ to fight back against Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s outrageous attack on the agency."
