Rep. Gerry Connolly, who has been serving in the U.S. Congress representing Virginia's 11th district since 2009, shared his thoughts on several topics through social media posts in early February 2025. Connolly, born in Boston and a graduate of Maryknoll Seminary, is known for his active engagement on various issues.

On February 1, Connolly marked the beginning of Black History Month by emphasizing its significance. He stated: "Happy Black History Month! Black history is American history. This is a time to celebrate Black Americans — their achievements, their stories, and their countless contributions to communities across this country."

The following day, February 2, Connolly praised federal workers involved in rescue and recovery missions at DCA airport. He highlighted their dedication by saying: "From rescue and recovery missions to comforting grieving families, the federal workers who are responding to the crash at DCA are doing the work of heroes." He further criticized former President Donald Trump by stating: "These are the federal workers Donald Trump is going after."

Later that day, Connolly addressed economic concerns related to tariffs imposed by Trump. He expressed criticism regarding these policies with the statement: "He’s admitted it himself — you’re going to be paying a whole lot more for a whole lot of goods thanks to Trump’s ridiculous tariffs."
