Rep. Gerry Connolly, a U.S. Congressman representing Virginia’s 11th district since 2009, has expressed concerns over recent developments involving Elon Musk and former President Donald Trump. Connolly's remarks, shared on social media, highlight potential risks associated with Musk's alleged involvement in government operations.
On February 1, 2025, Connolly tweeted about the cybersecurity risks posed by private servers reportedly set up by Musk. He stated that "Since Trump handed Musk the keys to our government, it’s been reported that Musk has set up private servers that risk a cybersecurity nightmare, sent out unsanctioned and untrustworthy resignation offers, and locked career officials out of agency systems."
In another tweet on the same day, Connolly addressed what he described as a "hostile takeover" of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) by Musk, sanctioned by Trump. He warned that "Elon Musk’s hostile takeover of OPM, sanctioned by Donald Trump, is putting Americans in danger."
Further emphasizing his concerns about leadership under Musk and Trump, Connolly asserted that their actions could have severe repercussions. On February 1st he tweeted: "The actions of Co-Presidents Musk and Trump will have disastrous consequences not just for the civil servants whose lives they are upending but for the American people who will suffer as a result."
