On the outer layer of the body, we all have Wei qi, which is a type of qi that protects us from pathogens. Wei qi’s job is to keep us safe and warm. The outer layer of our body acts on instinct and tends to absorb all the shocks, stresses, and times we almost get sick. It can also absorb emotional conversations that we may have that leave us feeling disconnected. It protects us from all the traumas so that they cannot harm us directly.
That’s when Gua sha comes in. Gua sha can help aid in the release of whatever we’ve been repressing. Colds and flu, toxins, emotions, stress, you name it. When we suppress these emotions and illnesses, our muscles and fascia tend to armor up. Gua sha comes in and stimulates the immune system, relieves pain, speeds recovery from injury, and invites fresh blood and lymph fluids in.
The results look different for everyone. It can be bright, or dull, red or purple, a lot or a little.
