Three George Mason wrestlers qualify for NCAA Championships

Three wrestlers from George Mason University have secured spots at the upcoming NCAA Championships following their performances at the Mid-American Conference (MAC) Championship in Buffalo, New York. Four members of the Patriots wrestling team also finished on the MAC Championship podium.

Logan Messer earned his first MAC Championship title and qualified for the NCAA Championships for the first time in his career. The Ohio native has accumulated 101 career wins and will compete at the national championship in Cleveland.

Malachi DuVall qualified for the NCAA Championship for a third consecutive season by finishing second. He reached the final after two straight victories but was defeated by top-seeded Sal Perrine from Ohio. “After winning two straight yesterday to get into the championship bout, top-seeded Sal Perrine from Ohio defeated DuVall in the final,” according to event organizers.

DJ McGee took third place by defeating K. Burgess from Buffalo with a major decision, 12-2, earning his third trip to the NCAA Championship.

Freshman Tate Hisey placed sixth after advancing through consolation matches following a narrow loss to J. Brenneman from Edinboro.

Other George Mason wrestlers who competed included Ben Monn (125 lbs.), Anthony Lucchiani (133 lbs.), Kaden Cassidy (149 lbs., medical forfeit), Drew Dickson (165 lbs.), Jack Kelly (197 lbs.), and Herbert Billups (285 lbs.).
