Prospective Student Athlete Information

101

Northern Virginia Community College athletics is restarting in August with cross country, soccer and volleyball to go along with men's and women's basketball in November, as all head coaches have been reappointed to their positions for those respective sports.

All coaches are currently working to refill the rosters that were depleted following the COVID-19 pandemic.

Potential student-athletes must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours during the season of the sport played. If student-athletes drop under 12 credit hours, they are not eligible to play. Each course in the 12 hours must start prior to the end of the regular season.

Prospective student-athletes must fill out and return the student-athlete affidavit to the NOVA athletic office or the head coach. If the prospect is under the age of 18, a parent or guardian must sign the forms as well, and no participation is allowed until the forms are submitted.

Before the first day of tryouts student-athletes must have a physical completed by a medical professional and the form must be returned to the NOVA athletics office or coach.

A copy of official high school transcript that certifies graduation from a standard U.S. high school and official copies of transcripts from all other colleges attended must also be turned into Director of Athletics Steve Mrowka prior to the start of your season. Home school students need to contact the athletic office for verification procedures. For GED students a copy of the official results is required. OFFICIAL college transcripts from any other college(s) attended must also be given to Athletic Director.

Students who have graduated from a foreign high school or are on an I-20 Visa must do the following: High school transcript MUST be translated to English (if applicable) by a professional translation service and document graduation date. Google Translate is NOT an acceptable interpretation document. Suggested provider for translation service is World Education Services (www.WES.org).

For questions about NOVA Athletics, please contact Director of Athletics Steve Mrowka at smrowka@nvcc.edu. Please visit the NOVA Athletics Staff Directory to find the contact information of each head coach.
