The George Mason University rowing team will look to cap a season of growth with a strong performance at the 2022 Atlantic 10 Championship Saturday on the Cooper River in Cherry Hill, N.J.
Preliminary heats commence at 8 a.m. with Varsity 4+ racing. Mason is in that first heat along with Fordham, Rhode Island, George Washington and La Salle.
Mason's Second Varsity 8+ begins racing at 8:40 a.m. against Rhode Island, Fordham, Massachusetts and La Salle.
The Varsity 8+ heat hits the water at 9:20 a.m., with Mason suiting up against Duquesne, Fordham, Massachusetts and Dayton.
Finals start at 10:30 a.m. and wrap up at 12:30 p.m.
Mason is trending upward after showing substantial improvement throughout the spring season.
The Patriots' Varsity 8+ boat earned Mason Athlete of the Week accolades after a second-place finish at the Pinchot Invitational on April 30. Mason completed its 2k race in 6:49.00 less than six seconds behind first-place Lafayette. The Green & Gold placed ahead of Loyola (Md.) and ahead of Penn State by close to 29 seconds.
It marked the second-straight race that the Varsity 8+ posted a season-best time.
In addition, the Second Varsity 8+ and Varsity 4+ boats put together solid races in Lewisberry, Pa.
Mason fans can follow the action live at the A-10 Championships Saturday. The races will be broadcast live on ESPN+, while results will be posted in real time on Atlantic10.com.
