Nighthawks move on in postseason

19

The object of the postseason is to survive and advance, and the Northern Virginia Community College Esports Valorant and Rocket League teams each won a first round NJCAAE Tournament game Monday night.

The Nighthawks Valorant team was up first Monday, and defeated Finger Lakes in two games (13-4, 13-2).  NOVA's next foe in the quarterfinals of the spring tournament is Northampton Community College at 7 p.m. on Saturday.

For the Nighthawks on Monday, Julian (NUNU) Barretto had 36 kills in the two games, but one of the most important kills for NOVA came at the end of the second game when Wilton (Wilts) Doherty was facing a 2-1 and came up big with two eliminations to secure the victory.

NOVA dominated the opening game of Rocket League 6-0 against Lincoln Land behind a hat trick from Brandon (Taurus) Woods. The Nighthawks won the second game as all three student-athletes hit the back of the net and won 5-3.

The Nighthawks had momentum late in the third battle, but couldn't hit the goal with seconds to go, which gave the Loggers a 3-2 victory. NOVA put the clamp on LLCC's chances in the fourth contest John (Ehbility) Killian and Taurus each tallied two goals in the 5-0 victory.
