Gerry Connolly, a longstanding member of the U.S. Congress representing Virginia’s 11th district, recently shared several updates on social media addressing significant events and initiatives. Connolly, who has served in Congress since 2009 after succeeding Tom Davis, also previously held a position on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors from 2003 to 2009.
On May 8, 2025, Connolly highlighted the importance of public servants by introducing a resolution during Public Service Recognition Week. He stated that “Public servants, including our incredible federal employees, are our nation’s unsung heroes.” This resolution aims to honor and celebrate their service amidst what he describes as “unprecedented attack.”
Later that day, Connolly expressed his thoughts on a historic event within the Catholic Church. On May 8, he remarked on the election of Pope Leo XIV as “the first American pope,” calling it “a moment of great joy and possibility for Catholics around the world.” He hopes Pope Leo XIV will continue the legacy of reform initiated by Pope Francis.
The following day, May 9, Connolly acknowledged Military Spouse Appreciation Day by recognizing military spouses both in his district and across America. He conveyed gratitude for their contributions with a message: “Thank you for your strength and your sacrifice.”
Gerry Connolly was born in Boston in 1950 and currently resides in Fairfax. He graduated from Maryknoll Seminary with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1971.
