Connolly has been vocal in his opposition to certain policies and practices that he believes undermine democratic principles and due process.
On January 22, 2025, Connolly announced his intention to vote against the Laken Riley Act. He stated, “I’m about to head to the House floor to vote against the Laken Riley Act – again. This bill denies due process, authorizing the mass detention of people who have been merely accused, not convicted, of even minor crimes.” He described the legislation as an “extreme overreach” that he would not support.
Later that day, Connolly highlighted the importance of Inspectors General for government transparency. In his post from January 22, he asserted, “Inspectors General are vital to a transparent government, especially with Donald Trump in the White House.” He emphasized that any attempts to interfere with or improperly remove these officials would not be tolerated by @OversightDems and welcomed whistleblowers to reach out to his office.
On January 23, Connolly commented on constitutional matters related to former President Donald Trump. He affirmed his stance regarding constitutional integrity by stating simply but firmly in his post from that date: “Good. The 14th Amendment is clear as day on this. Donald Trump doesn’t get to rewrite the Constitution on a whim.”
