Representative Gerry Connolly, who has served in the U.S. Congress representing Virginia’s 11th district since 2009, recently took to social media to express his views on former President Donald Trump’s upcoming visit to Congress. Connolly, a veteran politician with a background in local governance from his time on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, addressed Trump directly in a series of tweets.

On March 3, 2025, Connolly tweeted: “Instead of coming to Congress tomorrow to spread your lies, @realDonaldTrump, please send us an email with 5 things you’ve done lately. Here’s a template you can copy and paste. I know service might be spotty on the golf course: 1. Rammed through a budget that will slash…” This tweet suggests skepticism about Trump’s actions and intentions regarding budgetary decisions.

In another tweet posted at the same time, Connolly stated: “Lastly, please be sure to note that you have not done a single thing to bring down the cost of living. The American people look forward to your response.” Here, Connolly highlights concerns about economic issues under Trump’s influence.

Additionally, Connolly criticized several specific policy decisions by Trump in another tweet from March 3rd: “You could also mention how you’ve eliminated USAID and left food for starving children to rot on the shelf. Or how you abandoned our friends in Ukraine in favor of a murderous, authoritarian thug. Or how you released violent insurrectionist criminals onto our streets.” This statement underscores Connolly’s disapproval of Trump’s foreign policy and domestic security measures.
