The George Mason Patriots defeated the Dayton Flyers 6-4 in extra innings to even their baseball series at Woerner Field, according to a May 9 report. Senior right fielder Drew Canody drove in two runs during the top of the tenth inning, helping secure the win for George Mason.

The game was marked by several rallies from both teams. The Patriots tied or took the lead three times throughout the contest. Redshirt-junior Owen Stewart pitched five innings in relief and earned his fifth win of the season. Senior shortstop Owen Clyne contributed with two hits, including his sixth home run and three runs batted in.

Dayton initially took a 1-0 lead in the third inning with an RBI single from junior center fielder Michael Smith. Clyne responded for George Mason with a solo home run in the fourth to tie it up. The Flyers reclaimed leads twice more before Clyne’s two-run single put George Mason ahead briefly in the seventh inning.

The Flyers tied and then regained leads on solo home runs by Grayson Carpenter and Ryan MacDougall, but Canody scored on an error after reaching base on a bunt single to send the game into extra innings at 4-4. In the tenth, Lucas Alberti walked and Luciano Terilli singled before Canody delivered a two-run single that proved decisive.

Pitching performances included Jake Drumm allowing two runs over five innings for George Mason while Stewart gave up two runs over five relief innings for his fifth win. For Dayton, John Delgado allowed three runs over nearly seven innings while Jason Bello took the loss after surrendering an unearned run late.

The series will conclude Sunday at noon at Woerner Field.
