Rep. Gerry Connolly, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Virginia’s 11th District since 2009, expressed concerns through a series of posts on April 16, 2025, regarding Elon Musk’s business activities and potential conflicts of interest within federal departments. Connolly, together with various colleagues, is calling for investigations into these matters.

In a post made on April 16, 2025, Connolly announced alongside Rep. Shontel Brown that they sent a letter to the White House Chief of Staff to initiate “an investigation into the White House’s use of Elon Musk’s Starlink”.

Earlier on the same day, Connolly stated that together with Vice Ranking Member Rep. Jasmine, they had launched “an investigation into Elon Musk’s obvious conflicts of interest at the Department of Commerce”.

Additionally, Connolly, with cooperation from Rep. Stephen Lynch, informed that they sent a letter opening an “investigation into Elon Musk’s conflicts of interest at the Department of Defense, citing $9.5 billion in defense contracts”.

Connolly, 73, born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1950 and a graduate of Maryknoll Seminary, has served in the U.S. Congress since 2009 following his tenure on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors.
