Gerry Connolly raises alarms over national security issues, urges action

Representative Gerry Connolly, serving Virginia’s 11th district in the U.S. Congress since 2009, recently took to social media to voice his concerns regarding potential security breaches and actions by individuals he deems irresponsible. Connolly has represented his district for over 14 years and has been active in addressing national security issues.

On March 26, 2025, Connolly tweeted about what he perceives as a serious mishandling of classified information. He stated, “Right after Pete Hegseth sent the message with detailed, classified attack plans to the group, Michael Waltz set the chat to disappear. Crime and cover up, all in one. This entire team needs to go – right now.” This tweet highlights his deep concern over the alleged actions of Hegseth and Waltz.

By March 27, 2025, Connolly had expanded his criticism, accusing a specific individual of multiple failures. He tweeted, “He fired thousands of veterans across the government. His team carelessly shares information that puts our pilots at risk. He doesn’t care to know about missing American soldiers. What more proof do we need that this man doesn’t give a damn about the heroes who protect us?” Connolly calls into question the commitment of leadership to military personnel and veterans.

The next day, on March 28, 2025, Connolly emphasized the need for congressional action, urging investigations into these matters. He tweeted, “Signalgate is a national security threat that Congress cannot ignore. @OversightDemocrats are demanding IGs investigate this and any other incidents in which senior Trump officials have compromised sensitive or classified national security information.” Connolly is pushing for accountability and a thorough investigation into what he describes as significant breaches of security protocols.
