Gerry Connolly, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Virginia’s 11th district since 2009, shared several updates via his social media account on May 5, 2025. His communications highlighted celebrations and legislative efforts related to his role in Congress.
On May 5, 2025, Connolly commemorated Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. He expressed appreciation for the contributions and leadership of these communities both in his district and across the United States.
Later that day, he acknowledged collaborative efforts with other lawmakers on a significant legislative initiative. Connolly extended gratitude towards Senators Mazie Hirono and Juan Ciscomani for their leadership in the effort, as well as Representatives Andrea Salinas, Rashida Tlaib, Greg Murphy, Zach Nunn, Brian Fitzpatrick, and Josh Harder for cosponsoring an important bill.
Additionally, Connolly announced that the House had passed his Veteran Fraud Reimbursement Act. This legislation aims to facilitate financial restitution for veterans with disabilities who have been victims of benefit fraud.
Connolly has served in Congress since succeeding Tom Davis in 2009 after serving on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors from 2003 to 2009. Born in Boston in 1950 and now residing in Fairfax at age 73, Connolly graduated from Maryknoll Seminary with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1971.
