Gerry Connolly, a U.S. Congressman representing Virginia’s 11th district since 2009, shared his views on recent political developments through a series of tweets. His remarks focused on the actions and policies associated with former President Donald Trump and the Republican Party.

On March 5, 2025, Connolly expressed concern over the direction of government service under Trump’s influence. He stated, “Tonight, we heard a lot about how our government should serve Donald Trump, but nothing about how Donald Trump will serve the American people.”

In another tweet posted shortly after, Connolly criticized Republican support for what he described as a “wannabe strongman” and “billionaire oligarch.” He argued that this allegiance was aimed at facilitating tax cuts for large corporations and wealthy individuals. He tweeted, “Meanwhile, Republicans are falling in line behind this wannabe strongman and a billionaire oligarch – all so they can give away trillions in deficit-busting tax cuts to big corporations and the very wealthiest. Their silence is a betrayal of the Americans they were sent to…”

Later that day, Connolly addressed Trump’s immigration policies. He highlighted their impact on families and communities by stating: “Under Donald Trump’s immigration policies, neighbors are disappearing. Kids are terrified of losing their parents. Families are being ripped apart. But cruelty is the point, and ‘bringing hell’ to American cities is the plan.”
