Rep. Gerry Connolly, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Virginia’s 11th district since 2009, has taken to social media to express his concerns and opposition regarding actions by former President Donald Trump and entrepreneur Elon Musk. Connolly, who has been vocal in his criticism, posted a series of tweets addressing these issues.

On February 11, 2025, Rep. Connolly stated his intention to oppose both Donald Trump and Elon Musk through various means. He asserted: “We will fight Donald Trump and Elon Musk in courts of law, in the halls of Congress, and in the court of public opinion. This is just the beginning.”

The following day, on February 12, 2025, he criticized what he perceives as punitive measures against those exposing inefficiencies within government investments under the Trump Administration. Connolly tweeted: “In the Trump Administration, exposing $500 million in potential wasted government investments is a fireable offense if it makes President Trump, Elon Musk, and DOGE look bad. Remember that when they lie to you and tell you DOGE is about government efficiency.”

Later on February 12, Connolly voiced concerns over mass firings within the federal workforce attributed to decisions made by what he describes as authoritarian leadership. He remarked: “The indiscriminate firing of hundreds of thousands of dedicated, nonpartisan civil servants by a wannabe dictator and his unelected pet billionaire will have an immediate and devastating impact on the integrity and capability of our federal workforce.”
