Gerry Connolly, a U.S. Congressman representing Virginia’s 11th district since 2009, shared a series of tweets on February 16 and 17, 2025, addressing issues related to tax filing difficulties, political unity among Democrats, and concerns about privacy.

On February 16, Connolly expressed concern over the complications in tax filing allegedly caused by Donald Trump and Elon Musk. He stated: “In the height of tax season, Donald Trump and Elon Musk are making it much more difficult to file your taxes and get your refund. This is a gift to their billionaire friends at your expense.”

Later that day, Connolly emphasized Democratic unity in defending democracy and challenged Republicans to oppose what he described as an emerging oligarchy. He remarked: “Democrats are united in defense of our democracy. Time for Republicans to muster what little courage they have left to stand up to this new American oligarch.” He referenced @Reinlwapo in his tweet.

On February 17, Connolly criticized former President Trump’s alleged desire for Elon Musk to access personal data while maintaining secrecy over his own tax returns. His statement read: “The President who went to the Supreme Court to keep his own tax returns secret wants Elon Musk to have access to your personal data.”
