Gerry Connolly, a U.S. Congressman representing Virginia’s 11th district since 2009, has recently expressed his views on various political issues through a series of tweets. Connolly, who previously served on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors and holds a BA from Maryknoll Seminary, addressed topics ranging from government funding to women’s rights.

On March 6, 2025, Connolly commented on the role of the National Endowment for Democracy. He stated that “For decades, the National Endowment for Democracy has maintained bipartisan support and empowered democratic movements in the most vulnerable regions of the world.” He criticized the Executive Branch by saying it lacks authority to withhold congressionally appropriated funds and called upon Secretary Rubio to act accordingly.

The following day, March 7, 2025, Connolly voiced concerns about decision-making within the government. He remarked that “This is what happens when an unelected billionaire and his roving gaggle of 20 year olds are calling the shots.” He further criticized their understanding of governmental operations and highlighted their impact as detrimental.

On March 8, 2025, Connolly took a moment to acknowledge International Women’s Day. In his tweet he said: “Happy International Women’s Day, VA-11! Today, we celebrate the stories and achievements of women across the world…” emphasizing commitment towards advancing women’s rights and freedoms.
