George Mason University senior Georgi Zahariev has been named the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) Offensive Player of the Week, according to an announcement made by the league on Monday. This is Zahariev’s first weekly conference honor this season and the second of his college career.

Zahariev, a setter from Stara Zagora, Bulgaria, played in all seven sets during George Mason’s two victories over the weekend in Fairfax. The team defeated No. 19 NJIT and Dominican. In Friday’s match against NJIT, Zahariev posted a season-high 53 assists—just one short of his personal best—and contributed three block assists along with a service ace.

He continued his performance into Sunday’s game, recording 38 assists, three block assists, a .938 service percentage, and another service ace.

Over both matches combined, Zahariev accumulated 91 assists (averaging 13 per set), 15 digs (2.14 per set), two service aces, an .882 service percentage, a .571 hitting percentage, six blocks, four kills and nine total points. He currently leads all EIVA players with an average of 10.02 assists per set.

Looking ahead, George Mason will play two games in North Carolina next week: Queens University of Charlotte on Friday at 6 p.m., followed by Belmont Abbey on Saturday at 4 p.m.
