April 2 will mark the return of George Mason Giving Day, a 24-hour event that brings together alumni, friends, faculty, staff, students, and families in support of George Mason University. The initiative aims to foster community engagement and encourage charitable contributions that benefit various university causes.
Previously known as Mason Vision Day, the event has reverted to its original name, Giving Day. The Office of Annual Giving chose this change to highlight the tangible effects each donation can have. This year’s theme centers on “Race Day,” aiming to motivate participants and donors.
“Giving Day is an event we look forward to with the same energy and anticipation that defines a race day,” said Elijah Rosenthal, director of annual giving. “Just as every runner plays a role in a race, every donor helps drive our shared progress toward a meaningful finish.”
Rosenthal noted the university’s objective for this year: “We want to surpass last year’s participation, hoping to welcome more than 2,000 donors this year.” Planned activities include matching and challenge gifts, social media campaigns, campus-wide events with recognition for faculty and staff, and an evening celebration for alumni and the community.
Supporters are encouraged to pledge or make donations ahead of time through givingday.gmu.edu. According to Rosenthal: “There are so many impactful initiatives at George Mason, and Giving Day is about the power of each donor to support the causes that they are passionate about, from academics to athletics, performing arts to research.”
He emphasized the collective effort: “Most of all, it’s about racing toward George Mason’s future and crossing the finish line together.”
