The George Mason baseball team lost to Georgetown, 5-4, in the final game of their series on Sunday afternoon at Spuhler Field.

The close contest saw strong performances from several Patriots players. Senior right fielder Drew Canody recorded three hits, including a double, and scored two runs. Senior shortstop Owen Clyne also had three hits with one run batted in and scored once. Sophomore left fielder Lucas Alberti contributed a double and drove in two runs. Freshman pitcher Aiden Parker made his first collegiate start for George Mason.

Georgetown took an early lead in the third inning with a two-run double by junior designated hitter Ashtin Gilio and an RBI single from graduate student shortstop Connor Peek, making it 3-0. The Patriots responded in the fourth inning when junior first baseman Jake Butler walked, Clyne singled, and Alberti hit a double to drive in two runs, narrowing the gap to 3-2.

In the fifth inning, Canody singled and eventually scored on Butler’s single to tie the game at 3-3. However, Georgetown regained control in the sixth with a solo home run by sophomore right fielder Christian Hamilton. Another solo home run by graduate student catcher Connor Price extended their lead to 5-3 in the seventh.

George Mason added one more run in the bottom of the seventh when Canody doubled and Clyne singled him home, but could not complete the comeback. Parker allowed three runs on four hits over 2.2 innings during his debut start. Graduate student Diego Cardenas took the loss after giving up two runs over four innings pitched.

For Georgetown, starter Spencer Seid earned his fourth win of the season despite allowing three runs over five innings. Closer Luke Jackman secured his fourth save by pitching a scoreless ninth inning.

Looking ahead, George Mason will travel to face Longwood on Tuesday at Buddy Bolding Stadium.
