George Mason University’s wrestling team saw significant results on the first day of the 2026 Mid-American Conference (MAC) Wrestling Championships at Alumni Arena in Buffalo, New York. Malachi DuVall, ranked 25th nationally, secured a spot at the NCAA Championships for the third consecutive year. Logan Messer, ranked 27th, advanced to the finals and will compete for his first trip to the NCAA Championships if he secures a true second-place finish.

DuVall reached his 99th career win after defeating J. McGill from Edinboro in sudden victory, 7-4, during the semifinals. He is set to face top seed Sal Perrine from Ohio for the individual championship.

Messer achieved his 100th career win with three consecutive victories, including a semifinal win over Garett Thompson of Ohio. He will wrestle E. Munguia from Rider for the title at 174 pounds.

DJ McGee lost his semifinal match to D. Raike from Ohio but remains in contention for an NCAA berth through wrestlebacks. Freshman Tate Hisey won his opening match by technical fall but fell in the quarterfinals before advancing through consolation rounds. Jack Kelly also advanced in wrestlebacks after an initial loss.

Ben Monn and Anthony Lucchiani both rebounded from early defeats to secure wins in their respective consolation matches and will continue competing.

Kaden Cassidy defaulted both matches due to not being medically cleared but hopes to receive an at-large bid to the NCAA Championship. “He wasn’t medically cleared in time for the MAC Championships but will be for the NCAA Championships according to head coach Frank Beasley.”

The George Mason lineup includes competitors across all weight classes, with several athletes still seeking qualification through remaining matches.
